On Killing: The Fatal Question
In association with Carlton America and Nick Nolte's
company, Kingsgate Films, Artists on the Attack Productions
is currently shopping this riveting controversial documentary
series.
The concept of On Killing: The Fatal Question originated
with the best-selling, Pulitzer Prize nominated book On
Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and
Society by psychologist, professor, and former U.S. Army Ranger,
Lt. Col. David Grossman. Grossman's book presents a deeply
moving --- and alarming --- exploration of killing. From first-hand
assessment of the consequences for individuals and for society of
those traumatic experiences, Grossman's work provides the core of our
proposal.
The documentary will combine scholarly research and
thought-provoking drama with promotability and critical attention.
With the passionate commitment of Oscar-nominated actor/producer Nick
Nolte, and his production company Kingsgate Films, these
engrossing shows will be augmented by major star power. Nolte
has received preliminary enthusiastic responses from Marlon
Brando, Jack Nicholson, George Clooney, John Travolta, Sissy Spacek,
Sally Field, Sean Penn and Martin Sheen.
These distinguished performers will breathe dramatic life into
the moving letters, journals and narratives of combat veterans, war
camp survivors, family members and others who have been forever
transformed by the act of killing.
With major star power in both the celebrity and political arenas
at our disposal, On Killing possesses the potential to pull in even
the most jaded viewer. And once their attention has been
captured, we will mount an intensely powerful, visceral productions
of integrity that seeks not only to entertain, but also enlighten,
to question, and even to shed significant light on one of
humankind's epochal mysteries. The fatal question: Why do
we kill?
Executive Producers and Show Creators are Geoffrey Donne, Jude
Prest, Nick Nolte and Greg Shapiro.
Women In Black
In association with Neuman Films, Artists on
the Attack Productions is currently shopping this unprecedented
documentary.
Only 20% of our judges are women, Who are
these distinguished Women In Black, and how did they climb to
their lofty positions? How has the Gentlemen's Club of the
judiciary reacted to the increased female presence? What is
the legacy these judges will leave behind? Does the presence
of these women judges matter to the future of this and other
nations? These are some of the central questions analyzed by Women in Black in a pair
thoughtful, ground-breaking, two-hour documentaries, introduced
and hosted by a distinguished personality such as President Bill
Clinton, Senator Patricia Schroeder, Stanford Law School Dean
Kathleen Sullivan, or newscaster Catherine Crier ( a former judge).
The reforms achieved by women's rights activists
over the last 30 years offer hope of achieving equality for women
under law. But laws are only as effective as the judges who
interpret, apply, and enforce them. Do male judges still
adhere to a traditional vision of women shaped by stereotype and
myth? Does this affect their interpretation of law? Do
women judges bring a different experience, different assumptions,
and their own stereotypes and myths? And does this produce a
different interpretation than their male counterparts?
Women in Black will address these
questions, conduct interviews, take a remarkable walk behind sealed
chamber doors, and reveal the personal lives of the world's most
powerful women judges. The program will be tight, insightful,
and compelling with commanding visuals: vivid on-camera interviews,
context-setting narrative, live action and archival footage,
point-counter-point debates, and in-depth interviews in courtrooms,
chambers, and homes.
Executive Producers and Show Creators are Jeffrey
Neuman and Geoffrey Donne. Based on the show concept
and writings of Maxine Sonnenburg.
